Inaugural Meeting of the Barbet Club of Great Britain

We met at 2pm on a rather wet and windy day In Old Windsor Memorial Hall, Berkshire, a stones throw from the site where the Magna Carta was signed. The event was the Inaugral meeting of the Barbet Club of Great Britain. It`s always a pleasure to meet up, and the three dogs, Demi, Bonnie and Daisy who attended behaved impeccably throughout the event. The meeting went smoothly and luckily ran to time. After a brief introduction the first matter was to adopt the clubs draft Constitution which was voted in unanimously. The next item was to elect acting committee members with most agreeing to take on specific roles within the club. The membership fees and associated form were agreed upon and the fist few items for the fledgling commitee were discussed. The date for the first A.G.M was set and then the meeting was officailly closed.

Following on from the meeting there was a presentation of certificates to those attending, whose barbets had achieved the T.A.N. (Test d`Aptitude Naturelle) and a raffle of dog related items in aid of club funds.

Although we are very small in numbers and we have a breed which is very low in numbers worldwide not only in the UK, the way forward is to safeguard what we have. It is a compliment to the barbet as a breed that some of those that attended the meeting have barbets as companions, they donít work them, they donít show them, and have no intention to breed from them. Some of these companion barbets have taken their T.A.N. test, some have had their eyes tested, some have attended Game Fairs. I think that alone shows the strength of feeling for the barbet in the Uk.

One of our aims for the Barbet Club is look after all aspects of the breed and to do that successfully we need the breed represented in all its future roles.

A big thank you to all those who attended.

Please Note copies of the Membership Application Form and the Club Constitution are available to download from the `Barbet Club`- `Membership` section of this website.
