We have recieved the following correspondance from the Kennel Club.

''At its recent meeting, the Committee considered the application for recognition of the Barbet. It was agreed that the presentation submitted was impressive and comprehensive. However the Committee advised that the breed population did not meet the requirements now in place. Idealy there should be 20 dogs resident in the UK preferably unrelated. We regret to advise you that the application for recognition was not approved for this reason. A three year moratorium on further consideration of this matter was imposed. We would therefore be unable to submit a further application to the Committee until February 2011.''

While obviously dissapointed, we know that we could not have submitted a better application and again I would like to thank everyone who contributed with information and photographs. We were always aware that this would not be an easy project and we now have a target to work towards for 2011. Ultimately it is the barbet itself that will determine its own future rather than by any pen pushing by ourselves or the Kennel Club. I have every faith that the barbet will rise to the challenge.

On a more positive note, Betsy is doing her bit to increase the UK population. As she nears her due date she is spending a lot more time sleeping. The extra weight is starting to show and she is now a lot more careful about how she moves around. My children have felt the puppies kick a few times which has increased the air of excitement in the house. Betsy is in good health and seems happier now that I have been able to increase her food as she enters the latter stages of pregnancy. We have got our fingers crossed!
